Privacy policy

The short version
- Your recordings stay on your Mac. Clipfio has no account and doesn't use our servers. It never sends your recordings, transcripts or anything it works out about them to us or anyone else.
- Clipfio only uses your screen, microphone and camera when you ask it to, and macOS asks for your permission first.
- No analytics, no advertising and no tracking, in the app or on this website.
Who we are
Seeky Ltd owns Clipfio. It is a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17272912) at 51 Colegate, Norwich NR3 1DD. Seeky Ltd is the controller of any personal data described here, and is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ZC183006). You can contact us at support@clipfio.com, or at privacy@clipfio.com for privacy and data requests.
What Clipfio does on your Mac
Clipfio records what you choose: your whole screen, one window, an area you drag out or several displays, with sound from the system, your microphone or a single app. Recordings are saved as ordinary files in a folder you choose on your Mac.
Transcripts and search. Clipfio writes a transcript of each recording using speech recognition that runs on your Mac. The transcripts and the search index are kept on your Mac. Your searches are handled on your Mac too. We can't see any of it.
Podcast clean-up and editing. Silence removal, noise reduction, loudness levelling, trimming, chapter markers and exports all happen on your Mac. Your original recording stays as it was until you choose to replace it.
Sharing. Nothing is shared unless you share it. When you use AirDrop, copy a recording or send it to another app, it goes where you send it, under that service's own terms.
The permissions Clipfio asks for
macOS asks for your permission before Clipfio can use any of these. You can change your mind at any time in System Settings, under Privacy & Security.
- Screen and system audio recording: to record your screen, a window or an area, and the sound your Mac plays. Clipfio only captures while you are recording.
- Microphone: to record your voice, or another microphone you choose, on its own track. Clipfio only listens while you are recording.
- Camera: for the camera bubble. The camera is only on while the bubble is showing, and macOS shows its camera light whenever it is. Clipfio doesn't recognise faces or store anything about them.
- Input Monitoring: only if you switch on the keystroke overlay, so Clipfio can show the keys you press in the recording. Click highlights need no permission. Key presses are drawn into the video on your Mac and are never stored separately or sent anywhere. Password fields are never seen.
Recording calls automatically. This is off until you switch it on. When it's on, Clipfio notices on your Mac when a call starts and begins recording. Please let the people on a call know you're recording it. In some places the law requires it.
What we receive
Nothing about you or your recordings comes to us from the app. We don't sell or share personal information, and we don't use it for targeted advertising. There are three exceptions:
- Buying Clipfio. Clipfio will be sold on the Mac App Store. Apple handles the payment and doesn't give us your name or payment details.
- Crash reports. If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your Mac settings, Apple may send us crash reports and basic app usage figures. These never include your recordings or transcripts. You can turn this off in System Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements.
- Emailing us. If you email us, we use your email address and message to reply. We keep them for up to 2 years, then delete them.
clipfio.com doesn't use cookies or analytics, and it doesn't track you. Our hosting provider processes technical details such as your IP address to deliver and protect the site.
Our legal basis
- On your Mac: the processing happens on your device, under your control, and we don't receive the data.
- Emails: our legitimate interest in answering you.
- Crash reports: our legitimate interest in fixing problems, where you've chosen to share them.
Your choices and rights
- turn any permission off in System Settings, under Privacy & Security;
- delete a recording, and its transcript goes with it;
- delete the app to remove everything Clipfio stored, apart from the recordings in your chosen folder, which are yours to keep or delete.
As we hold no data about you from the app, there's normally nothing for us to send or delete. For emails you've sent us, you can ask to see, correct or delete them at privacy@clipfio.com.
UK and EU/EEA. You have the right to see, correct or delete personal data we hold, to object, and to complain to your data protection authority. In the UK, that's the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
United States, including California. We don't sell or share personal information, or use it for targeted advertising. The only personal information we receive is what you send us by email, and Apple's purchase reports, which don't identify you.
Everywhere else. The same on-device approach applies. Contact privacy@clipfio.com with any request, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Children. Clipfio isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If we change how Clipfio handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change matters, we'll say so in the app before it takes effect.
